![]() ![]() This role will require a commitment that is equivalent to a full-time job.Our off-site jewelers must be located in the continental USA.Shipping costs to and from the off-site jeweler will be at the expense of Melanie Casey Jewelry.We will supply the castings, findings, gold wire for resizing, and all diamonds and gemstones. The contractor is responsible for purchasing their own bench equipment such as solder, flux, gas, and any flex-shaft tools including polishing and sanding mandrels. Tools and materials costs will not be refunded. Our off-site jewelers will be required to purchase and maintain their own bench and tools. ![]() As part of compensation, this team member will be able to keep and refine all scrap metals. We work exclusively in 14k gold and 950 platinum.During our onboarding period, we will work closely with our jewelers to provide frequent, detailed, and specific feedback on finished work.Pay is based on a piece-rate with access to a regular and significant quality bonus after the completion of our bootcamp period.Benefits will not be offered and you will receive a 1099. This is an independent contractor position.This person should be capable of learning how to produce our entire product line with minimal instruction. The candidate should be an exacting quality-focused jeweler who has mastered working in gold and advanced stone setting.This role will exclusively make finished jewelry from a casting. This role will not be required to cast, hand-fabricate from sheet, or design.Access to a laser welder is a plus, but not a requirement.A willingness to learn the Melanie Casey way of doing things so that we can achieve consistent results across all of our jewelers.Use our Specifications sheets to achieve optimal results.You must be able to communicate with our in-house team regarding quality, questions, and anything that needs further attention on every work order. Excellent written communication skills are required for this role.Ability to be extremely critical of your work and able to perform self-quality checks.Please note that many of our designs feature two prong settings which are particularly unforgiving to set. All stones must be tight, straight, and without any shifting whatsoever. Stone setting: prong-set round and fancy cuts, and a lot of small melee prong setting.Earring post assembly that is centered and straight.Polishing: carefully executing a bright mirror finish without reducing the metal or prong material on our delicate pieces.Ring sizing: exact “spot-on” sizing up and down of our delicate 1.2mm ring bands.Setting: we use the Leica A60 microscope in our shop and recommend candidates use a bench microscope outfit in their shop.This process includes cast cleaning, sizing, stone setting, polishing, and quality checks. Must have the ability to bring a raw casting through to the final perfect product, ready to deliver to our clients.Must be able to execute all products in our line.Upon completion of our onboarding period, you will be eligible for a significant quality bonus.Keep the gold scrap from working on our product.Have your questions answered by our fabulous onsite team who are dedicated to excellence in jewelry making, team work, and communication.As an independent contractor, you get to be your own boss.Our offsite jewelers enjoy the following perks: Offsite jewelers must operate under minimal supervision and be capable of self-critiquing their own work with an inspector’s eye.
